When the NPF is involved, how are we even sure they weren't trying to extort your brother if not that he had evidence of purchase? I don't trust the NPF. If two devices have the same imei, they won't work because they will be black-listed. Your imei is your real number, even without sim cards, it is possible to make calls, especially emergency calls with it. When you check the website imei.info, what particulars of phone does it display concerning the imei number of your brother's phone? If it displays particulars exactly of your brother's phone, then conclude that the NPF was only trying to extort him.

Indeed. Four or more phones can have the same imei number..... It's easy to change/swap imei numbers, the reason you see people conceal their devices imei numbers...

except there is another complain of phone theft from the former 'complainant', if there was any. Slot should also be involved in it but trust the normal Nigerian business people mentality of always withdrawing from everything and pushing the problems to the customers. I just pity op's brother the way he will be treated by npf when he was accousted. It is unimagineble. NPF doesn't know what is called 'innocent until when convicted'.

try and make photocopies of the receipt. That's the only proof you have against slot. Protect it with all your might. Slot may even deny if you can't present it. Infact laminate it

The receipt has faded but it is still with him but he paid with their pos and that pos recipient is also intact.

I use to do it in my secondary school days so maybe it has being changed before being sold to your brother

Download custom ROM and flash the phone to get a new imei
Always flash a used phone to avoid people tracking you

Many guys were cloning imei numbers to get free data bonanaza sometime ago as i heard and read on nairaland, a particular telecom was offering
free welcome data for to every unique imei so someone may had guessed and clone the imei of your phone before you even bought it. In the country I leave, the telecoms does not allow 2 devices to be connected at the same time with same imei. A notification is auto sent to you telling you that you share an imei with someone.

When you use China phone, then anything is possible.

This happened to a friend's friend in kano and the police made a mistake in one number in the IMEI of the phone. That's why they picked up the lady

Thank God it was not a murder case. If your brother had the receipt with the IMEI written on it, He should press for a refund or another device. Slot is a respected and reputable seller, they will surely protect your brother's interest.

Lolz, is not possible and is possible, is not possible in the sense that the phone manufacturer can't make that mistake but is possible in the sense that a person can modify his Android phone imel in some way through some application to whatever imel he want, after rooting the phone, that was what guys are using some time ago to trick network provider to give them free data for some selected phone by changing the imel to the phone selected for the free data.

It is quite possible, for all this mtk devices especially. I could remember the days of free browsing tweaks, we dey change phone IMEI as easy as mess
